Song: Zero
Artist: Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Album: It’s Blitz!
Label: Interscope Records
Notes: 1st single from LP
Analysis: When Karen O entered through the curtain and started sashaying down the empty city street in her studded leather jacket and tight latex pants, I think I fell in love. I’m very love-hate with the band’s material. For instance, I think that ‘Maps’ is a genius song, probably one of the top 50 of the decade. But there is always this mental block that I have that is totally (and unjustly) against women lead singers. I don’t know what it is, but I always have a hard time enjoying them, although it probably began somewhere between Natalie Imbruglia and The Donnas… But the Yeah Yeah Yeahs can rock with the best in the genre, and ‘Zero’ has every quality you would want from a lead single: great melody, catchy chorus and right here, a sexy video.
