Analysis: Everyone’s new favorite musician, Justin Vernon and his band Bon Iver, are releasing a 4 track EP later this month called Blood Bank. Bon Iver isn’t one of those over-hyped musical acts that everyone is going to forget about. They (Vernon especially) are the real deal. This title track was actually written with his stellar album For Emma, Forever Ago, but in the end he decided it didn’t fit with the other songs, and never released it until now. I think that Bon Iver’s appeal, at least to me, is that it is pure, honest music, and that purity and honesty carries over on ‘Blood Bank’. Everything about this slow, intimate guitar song just falls perfectly into place. You can feel the genuine heart that is put behind the music and the lyrics, and you are vividly transported right there to the blistering cold winter day that Vernon is singing about. Music doesn’t get any better than this.
