Song: Piano Lessons [ft. Joell Ortiz]
Artist:
Colin Munroe
Album:
Colin Munroe is the Unsung Hero (mixtape)
Label:
10.deep
Producer:
Black Milk
Analysis:
I fuckin’ love this song. If all pop music sounded this good, the world would be a much better place. Black Milk should be in higher demand as a producer, because he is definitely top 5 in terms of quality these days. As for the video, it looks very self-produced. I’m going to assume that those are actual home video clips of Munroe playing the piano as a child, because if it isn’t, there is no reason for them to be there. So the overlay of a grownup Colin Munroe singing over a younger Colin Munroe’s piano playing is actually pretty interesting. The effects are cool, but nothing that can’t be done simply in iMovie. All in all, the video is fun to watch because the song is fun to listen to, which is the bottom line in most music videos. I don’t really understand the whole deal with the Dr. Seuss book, though.

  2. Well it’s basically overlaying clips on top of eachother, and playing with the opacities, is it not? I like the video and all but what I meant was that the effects are very simplistic. You don’t exactly need to learn Smoke or Shake to alter a clip’s opacity.
