Song: Red Rum [ft. Dre]
Artist: Lil Wayne
Album: unknown
Label: Cash Money / Universal Records
Producer: Cool & Dre
Notes: none
Analysis: Aside from the blatantly obvious jacking of Biggie’s verse from ‘The World Is Filled…’ from twelve fucking years ago (When the Remy’s in the system / ain’t no tellin’ will I fuck ’em will I diss ’em / that’s what they be yellin’ / I’m a pimp by blood, not relation / y’all be chasin’, I replace ’em), this is song is alright. The beat is piano-based with a chopped-up vocal sample, and Wayne’s lyrics are just his usual rambling, the highlights of which being: he once sold crack for a few days, he needs a whore to be gay, and he’s about to visit the moon. And even in context, those lines don’t make any sense. But the Cool & Dre beat is nice enough for me to enjoy the track musically at least, and to hold me over until Wayne comes out with a song that he will really knock out of the park. That only seems to happen every one of ten songs that he releases, but it’s ok because I expect about 20 more songs by or featuring Lil Wayne before the end of January.
