New Music: Method Man & Redman, Dangerous MCs
04.30.09

Song: Dangerous MCs
Artist: Method Man & Redman
Album: Blackout! 2
Label: Def Jam Records
Producer: Erick Sermon
Notes: none
Analysis: I don’t know why but I’m still surprised that Blackout! 2 is sounding this good. I was really afraid that I’d be disappointed, but after hearing about five tracks so far, I’ve yet to be let down. ‘Dangerous MCs’ is no different, but sounds more like something off of the original Blackout! than anything else we’ve heard from the sequel. Music Video: Method Man & Redman, A-Yo [ft. Sauktrates]
04.11.09
Song: A-Yo [ft. Saukrates]
Artist: Method Man & Redman
Album: Blackout! 2
Label: Def Jam
Producer: Pete Rock
Notes: 1st single from LP
Analysis: There’s a little confusion as to which is their actual first single, this or ‘Mrs. International’, as they were both leaked within a few weeks of eachother, with music videos shot around the same time also. Either one is good, but in my opinion A-Yo is the better song. This is the first video to be released however, and it’s great to see Red & Meth back in front of the camera having a good time. It’s also good to finally confirm that the man singing the hook is Red’s boy Saukrates, who we’ve heard before on a few songs on Red Gone Wild. The video’s expectedly basic, and the best part is those gold rope chains that the two emcee’s are rocking. It’s really cool to see this album actually happening after ten years of talk.
New Music: Method Man & Redman, Mrs. International
04.04.09

Song: Mrs. International
Artist: Method Man & Redman
Album: Blackout! 2
Label: Def Jam
Producer: Buckwild
Notes: 1st single from LP
Analysis: The last two songs to leak from the upcoming Blackout! 2 album have proven to be some of both Method Man & Redman’s best recent work. The first official single is no different, showing commercial appeal without compromising or losing any appeal to hip hop heads. Continue Reading
The New Classics Mixtape [March 2009]: Download
03.31.09
No artwork for this month’s tape, at least not yet. My time’s been real limited lately, but I managed to whip up a new Mixtape for whoever would like it. A few artists appear twice this go-round, but everything’s (2) legit + quality shit. This tape is also special because it features several tracks that haven’t even been reviewed yet here at The New Classics. Trust me when I say that this is the best mixtape so far from the site. Best 20 songs released in the month of March in the year of Two Thousand and Nine, in no particular order besides a transitional one:

New Music: Method Man & Redman, City Lights [ft. UGK]
03.25.09
Song: City Lights [ft. UGK]
Artist: Method Man & Redman
Album: Blackout! 2
Label: Def Jam
Producer: Nasty Kutt
Notes: none
Analysis: The second song to leak from Red & Meth’s upcoming sequel to their 1999 classic switches things up and goes the Southern route. Featuring the two Texas hip hop legends Bun B and the late Pimp C (although Pimp C is only present through the song’s sample), the duo pretty much confirms that Blackout! 2 will sound absolutely nothing like the original, but will be every bit as dope. New Music: Method Man & Redman, A Yo
03.04.09
Song: A Yo
Artist: Method Man & Redman
Album: unknown
Label: Def Jam Records
Producer: Pete Rock
Notes: none
Analysis: I was going to wait until I had more details before posting this track, but I got too excited. 1999’s Blackout! is one of my favorite hip hop LPs ever created, and it’s been too long since these two have contributed to a track together. Continue Reading
