Song: Breaktime [ft. Lil Wayne]
Artist: Tyga
Album: The Introduction
Label: Young Money Entertainment
Producer: Hustle Heart
Notes: none
Analysis: I absolutely hated Tyga’s debut album No Introduction, feeling that it unapologetically pandered to pop radio, and that Tyga had the most basic of basic styles, with not much interesting (for anyone over the age of 18 ) going on. This is the first song I’ve listened to from the young MC since that album was released, and it is obvious that he has stepped his game up a bit. He manages to impress by keeping up verbally with his boss, Lil Wayne, who is featured on the stripped down, dizzying track. Wayne of course outshines his protege with his colorful verse (Fearless is my middle name / my heart pump nitrogen / and I breath fire / better stand near a hydrant, and / I’ll cut you’re ass short / call me a hyphen), but if Tyga keeps improving like this, The Introduction might actually be worth checking out.
